It is a true gift of the Season, certain to put you in the holiday spirit!

See the world premiere of this new opera by Carla Lucero and Marianna Mott Newirth, commissioned by Opera Birmingham! The opera Touch picks up where the play The Miracle Worker ends, exploring the complicated relationship between Helen Keller, Anne Sullivan Macy, John Macy (Anne’s husband), and Peter Fagan (Helen’s interpreter and star-crossed lover).

Featuring the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, with Alie B. Gorrie performing the role of Helen Keller and Michelle Drever performing Anne Sullivan Macy.  

Sung in English with projected English text. Interpreted in American Sign Language (ASL). The length of the opera is approximately 90 minutes.

This one-act opera, filled with passionate tuneful music, is Leoncavallo’s lurid tale of a murderous clown’s vengeful act. Based on an actual crime, Pagliacci features a leading tenor role considered to be one of the most challenging because of the wide range of moods the character exhibits, from manic humor to murderous rage. This roller coaster of an opera will have you on the edge of your seat!

Featuring a wonderful cast of rising opera stars along with the Opera Birmingham Chorus, accompanied by the Alabama Symphony Orchestra.

Sung in Italian with English supertitles. The performance length is approximately 90 minutes with one intermission.
